not a serious person, meaning I don't take myself seriously.
To be serious about something, it must become so important
that you are afraid of losing it. And if you are afraid of
losing something -- even your life -- then it is not worth
having anyway. I lived in England as a teenager in the
1960's and, after forty years, John Lennon's lyric, "and in
the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make,"
captures up how I feel about relationships. I believe that
life works in direct proportion to the commitments you make
and keep, and the love and reverence you have for others and
all of life. I don't think that the other person in a
relationship is there to make you happy or whole. You make
yourself happy, but joyfully contribute to your lover's
happiness. And I don't believe you will ever find happiness
in trying to live up to another person's expectations of
you. A lover can, however, provide the encouragement,
support, passion, adventure, inspiration and occasional jab
in the ribs that adds richness and reason to life. A
relationship should be a journey, an adventure, while
remembering that it's the pebble in one's sandal, not the
rocky path, that makes the journey unbearable. I was once
that pebble in my lover's sandal. Never again. I trust my
heart, but also my intellect. I've learned from my choices.
Some were painful, broke my heart and others' hearts, but in
the end, there truly are no wrong choices. Exploring new
places, experiencing different cultures, learning the
traditions and beliefs of others, and encountering diverse
people enriches my life. I've lived in several areas of the
US as well as England, France and Greece. I love to travel,
and I've become selfish about it. In the past year, I've
visited New Mexico, West Texas, Jekyll Island, Belize and
several hundred breathtaking miles of Alaska on three
occasions. Alaska... what a spectacular place filled with
rugged, self-reliant, self-defined, independent, yet
generous, supportive people with a live-and-let-live
attitude. I'm drawn to all those qualities... especially in
a woman. I cook. I mean, I really cook. For three years, I
co-hosted All In Good Taste on HGTV and even wrote and
illustrated a modest cook book of my collected recipes. I'm
a constant reader and rarely watch television except motion
pictures. You can control the remote; I don't know what's on
which channel and don't care. And I'm not a big athletic
supporter--don't think I even own one--but I do like
individual sports and the outdoors... and the Iditarod. What
an amazing symbiosis of sinew and spirit. I'm a
photographer, and my work is hanging on my walls and the
walls of my friends... landscapes, documentary-style images
and candid photos of people and... okay, nudes, but mostly
scenic images of magnificent desolation and solitude. The
places we visit in contemplation and, fortunately, in person
from time to time. Well, enough self-examination. I'm out of
room here, but there's room in my life. Languages spoken:
English, some French and Italian."
